Jack Bauer is no more. Well, at least he’s no longer in action as 2014’s 24: Live Another Day saw Kiefer Sutherland’s legendary CTU agent turning himself over to get locked away in some icy Russian gulag. And with Bauer no longer leading the fan-favourite 24 franchise, it’s time for some new blood. We’ve already heard that Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins would be taking over the reins as a new young action hero, but now we actually get to see him do it too.

EW revealed the first image of Hawkins’ Eric Carter yesterday, and it’s one that sees him striking a pose that should be very familiar to any Jack Bauer fans out there.

EW also went on to give more detail on the character of Eric Carter, revealing that he is a “strong and smart man who turned his life around in the Army Rangers. When he returns to Virginia, he’s pulled back into action by the Counter Terrorist Unit in order to prevent a domestic attack.”

They also shared more details on the rest of the new cast: Anna Diop plays Nicole, Eric’s wife; Miranda Otto stars as Rebecca, former head of the CTU; Jimmy Smits plays Rebecca’s husband, a powerful U.S. senator; Teddy Sears plays Keith, the new head of the CTU; Dan Bucatinsky and Carol Peña will play communication analysts at the CTU; and Charlie Hofheimer is Eric’s former Army Rangers partner now suffering from PTSD.

But enough words – lets see some action! Luckily during Fox’s Upfront presentation last night, they also unveiled a slew of trailers for their new slate of TV shows including an action-packed one for 24: Legacy which you can check out below.

Well, immediately I have to say that despite the duffel bag and pose, Hawkin’s Eric Carter doesn’t strike me as Jack Bauer replacement at all. But I guess, that’s the point, right? The trailer seems to hint strongly at all the twisty storytelling that 24 became (in)famous for, so I am fully on-board with this.

Sutherland will be acting as executive producer on the upcoming series, alongside original producers Howard Gordon, Manny Coto, and Evan Katz. 24: Legacy has also finally been given an official release date and it doesn’t get more high-profile than this as Fox will debut the show on Sunday, 5 February 2017, right after their broadcast of Superbowl LI. Much like has happened in the past with the franchise though, this will be a two-night premiere, kick off the Sunday night but then following up with another episode on the Monday, where it will stay for the rest of its broadcast life.

  1. I’m going to miss Jack Bauer and I was really hoping Yvonne Strahovski would be back for more, but I must say the trailer feels(and explodes) like 24, even without Jack Bauer – mildly optimistic for this one!
