When it comes to the hierarchy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I highly doubt many people – if any – would place the two Thor movies anywhere close to the top. Despite the fact that they’re responsible for Marvel’s most compelling villain, they’ve just been… decent. Entertaining to various degrees with more than enough technical polish to work, but they don’t exactly stand out of the pack. They may tie in quite a bit to the overall narrative of the MCU, but they never really made any huge impact like say the last two Captain America movies. Thor: Ragnarok is looking to change that.

Just from its name – and the classic comic storyline that goes along with it – we know the upcoming third Thor movie is already aiming for some cataclysmic stakes. It also has a Hulk. Those two facts are probably related. Maybe even more so than we previously thought. We’ve already heard that this will be some kind of cosmic adventure starring Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, but according to a new report from JoBlo, the movie will incorporate arguably Hulk’s most famous cosmic adventure: Planet Hulk.

For the uninitiated, you can read all about what Planet Hulk is and why it’s so incredible in an earlier post I did. Just know that fans have been screaming for a solo Planet Hulk movie for ages, but Marvel have constantly shut them down. But according to JoBlo, that’s probably because Marvel are combining the Planet Hulk and Ragnarok stories into one.

[WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS!!!]

The film will definitely have the Planet Hulk element in it, operating as a kind of mash-up with the Ragnarok story. How Thor ends up on the planet in question is unclear, but he will definitely be involved in some gladiatorial games run by none other than Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster. In terms of Hulk’s appearance in this portion of the film, he will be rocking the one-shoulder armor as seen in the comics, so expect him to be decked out in the familiar Planet Hulk look.

There had been some other rumours earlier in the year that the events that transpires in Ragnarok would see Thor exiled into space where he eventually ends up on an alien planet and is forced to fight in a gladiatorial arena. One in which none other than the Hulk is currently champion, after also having landed on this planet after launching himself into space on a quinjet at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

JoBlo’s sources seem to corroborate this theory, and they even go on to detail how certain characters will appear in the movie. In this case, Thor will reportedly sport a shaved head for a portion of the film, while Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will be ditching the traditional blonde shield maiden look, for something a lot more Native American in appearance.

However they all look, Thor: Ragnarok seems to be shaping up to be one hell of a cosmic blast! And speaking of cosmic blasts, JoBlo also goes on to drop a rumour for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. According to their sources, the main villain of writer/director James Gunn’s upcoming sequel has been revealed as Ayesha. No, not Ayesha Tyler from Whose Line Is It Anyway?. This Ayesha is an artificial genetically perfect being who was created by a group of megalomaniac scientists known as The Enclave. Ayesha was originally named HER, and was designed to be the mate of another artificial perfect being known as HIM, before developing a villainous personality of her own and picking up a few other names along the way, such as Kismet and Paragon.

What’s the most interesting about this, is that HIM is the being who would eventually go on to become Adam Warlock, who plays a huge role in the Guardians of the Galaxy comics, and was also heavily integral to the whole Infinity Gauntlet saga that Marvel are currently leading up to. Adam Warlock’s cocoon already appeared as an Easter Egg in the first film, and fans speculated for a long time that he would actually be Star-Lord’s father in the movie, though Gunn has since shut down that rumour. If Adam Warlock does appear, could he perhaps be played by one of the film’s many mysterious castings? Sylvester Stallone or Kurt Russell perhaps?

While those castings may seem like a stretch, one that isn’t is the Elizabeth Debicki, who joined the movie in a still to be revealed role, and is quite a fit for the role of Ayesha. JoBlo speculates that the Man From UNCLE actress could indeed be playing the film’s main villain. If true, this would be a huge breakout role for Debicki who was has been hovering on the edge of household name status for a while now.

So what do you guys think of both the Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 rumours? Both are pretty exciting if you ask me, and I’m genuinely hoping they’re true.

  1. if its the closest we’ll get to a Planet Hulk, that’s fine by me. Would’ve loved to see a proper Planet Hulk, but it doesn’t look like that will be on the cards at all. Hulk in his Gladiator gear sounds awesome.
