Damn! JK Simmons' Commissioner Gordon is going to be ripped!

Zack Snyder’s vision of the DC Comics universe introduced to us in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman is undoubtedly a bit more extreme than many fans are used to. Superman pretty much just lets thousands of people die, while Batman is essentially a psychotic mass murderer. And in a world of extreme heroics and extreme vigilantism, I guess you need extreme law too. Enter JK Simmons’ ridiculously muscular Police Commissioner Jim Gordon.

Holy bulging triceps, Batman!!!

Those pics popped up online yesterday courtesy of Hollywood celebrity trainer Aaron Williamson, who has been training the 61-year old Oscar-winning actor in preparation for his upcoming role as the beloved Police Commissioner in Justice League – Part 1 & 2. Fans understandably lost their minds. Why would this Jim Gordon ever need to flick on an oversized nightlight to call for Batman’s help, when clearly he can just lift the light over his head and smash it down on any criminals until they were just an approximation of chunky bolognaise sauce?

Needless to say, some called photoshop fakery on this, while others claimed they could smell the PED’s right through their computer monitors. Mashable spoke to Williamson to find out just how Simmons has managed to swell up quite like this. Turns out he’s been going at this for a while now already, and it was all about dedication. And blood. Really.

“No Photoshop. Thats’ all him. Yeah man, he started training with me and another trainer … he lost a lot of weight for Whiplash and got in shape, and wanted to see how far he could take it.”

“He’s a beast in a whole ‘nother category, mainly because of his age. But I would compare him with the Zac Efrons and James Brolins — he’s right up there with the dedication. If I tell him to eat three almonds, he eats three almonds.”

[Simmons] wanted to do something cool with his arms, so we started working on shaping, making the muscles rounder … we work on them from different angles, try to flush as much blood as you can, not as much weight and with a shorter rest period.”

“It really depends on how dedicated someone is. Most people do a set, check their phone, walk around for three or four minutes. [Not Simmons.] When you’re in the gym and you get a good pump going, you look a little bit bigger than usual.”

A little bit bigger?! Right!

As some of the gym-fiends among you might know, not taking a breather between different exercises causes blood to keep rushing to the muscles, resulting in them looking way more swollen than normal. That look is also amplified by the use of an “arm blaster”, the gold belt Simmons is wearing above which wraps around behind the triceps to isolate them, but in the process forces them to bulge out the to side to give that exaggerated look. And all of this combined means that while Simmons is getting undeniably more ripped and swollen than any Jim Gordon who has ever graced the screen, he’s also not actually a walking Rob Liefeld illustration.

To prove it, Williamson shared another pic which apparently gives a much more realistic representation of Simmons’ physique.

Still looks like he spends his weekends blikseming whole Gotham neighbourhoods for fun! Batman better not piss this Commissioner Gordon off that whole vanishing trick of his, or he may just see more than his back being broken this time.

Justice League is currently busy filming and Part 1 is scheduled for release on November 17, 2017.

  1. Maybe he is going to do a stint as the Batman in the movie, minus the big biker beard.

Maybe he just needs to look good in his own batsuit.

He’s making me feel bad. First he has a better beard, now he has better biceps, and he’s 20 years older than me. WTF.
