By now, Roland Emmerich must be the most hated man in America. He destroyed the White House when he FIRED HIS SPACE LASER in Independence Day, took down several national monuments in The Day After Tomorrow and pretty much screwed over the rest of society in 2012.

Emmerich just might be the greatest villain who has ever lived. And now, he’s going to destroy the Oval Office yet again, in the upcoming White House Down.

In Columbia Pictures’ “White House Down,” Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.

Channing Tatum just wanted to have an ordinary day. It’s not often that a highly trained failed-the-exam non-secret service agent gets a chance to take his daughter on a trip to the White House while proving that he is totes a good dad. But oh no! On the day that he chose to take his daughter and wear a sweater top that exposes his pectorals to dangerous levels of Die Hard gunfire, something just had to happen at the Presidential Palace!

Roland Emmerich wasn’t kidding around with his “Die Hard” in the White House it seems. The first trailer is light on Tatum and heavy on some sombre action, but in the battle of the oval offices, it looks like Olymps Has Fallen may have some credible competition here.

It’s the Armageddon to that film’s Deep Impact, the Volcano to its Dante’s Inferno. And it’s out in June.

White House Down stars Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins and James Woods, with Roland Emmerich directing.

Not gonna lie. Even despite that shot of pure, undiluted Tatum-ism at 01:49, I’m still really looking forward to this one. Emmerich is my movie guilty pleasure equivalent of Dan Brown. I know there work is technically not great, but I somehow just end up having a great time with it anyway.

Gotta say, I’m way more amped for this than the other Die Hard White House movie.

As a director of action, I rate Emmerich higher than Fuqua and the cast on this one is far more impressive (Jason Clarke as the villain? I’M THERE!) Except for Channing Tatum. Pity about that
