Terry Gilliam films are many things. Most of them being 50 shades of crazy. One such film that has really been a benchmark-setter for Gilliam though, is 1995’s 12 Monkeys which starred a time-hopping Bruce Willis in depserate need of some aspirins and answers.

It’s a standalone film which resolved itself neatly in one convenient time-loop. And now that loop may be getting wider as 12 Monkeys just got greenlit for a pilot episode that could lead to a TV series.

SyFy has been interested in the show for quite a while according to SlashFilm, which has been given orders to record a pilot episode based on a script by Terry “Terra Nova” Matalas and Travis Fickett. Original film producer Charles Roven is also onboard, as is Richard “The Dark Knight” Suckle. Details are being kept slim right now, as any further cast and crew for the project still need to be hired, let alone announced.

The original film was trippy though. Starring Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt and Madeline Stowe, the apocalyptic mind-bender had Willis time-traveling in an attempt to find out the cause for a plague that had decimated the majority of mankind.

But as for whether or not that film can be stretched over a dozen episodes or so, that remains to be seen when shooting kicks off in November for the pilot.
