Don't expect to see any more SHERLOCK until late 2013

Uh oh elementary fans. Put away the bad hats and retreat into your mind palaces, because it might be a good while before we see the modern day re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes any time soon.

The hit BBC series has revolved around two series so far, with each episode being a feature length film in size and scope. But due to the fact that production on the series has been delayed, it looks like we might be in for quite a wait on new episodes starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Holmes and Watson.

Production is currently scheduled to kick off in March, down from January as was originally planned. That’s all thanks to the fact that the two lead stars happen to be in demand in Hollywood right now, as Cumberbatch is busy with Star Trek, with Freeman working on The Hobbit.

The BBC is still looking to get the ball rolling on a third series, but don’t expect those episodes to appear until late 2013 at the earliest. And knowing that our local version of BBC entertainment prefers to broadcast episodes of Come Dine With Me until the idea is more beaten than a horse that pissed off Mike Tyson, we can probably expect the first season to start sometime during the next passing of Haley’s comet.

Sherlock first appeared back in 2010 with a three episode series, before returning for a second season earlier this year that saw the detective disgraced by his nemesis Moriarty, leading him to fake his own death.
