We’ve had two separate looks at Ryan Gosling’s directing debut, the dark fantasy Lost River, before now, and both of them featured incredible actors we love, arresting visuals and an incredible soundtrack. But what didn’t feature was sense – as in these previews really didn’t make any. Hell, the first teaser trailer was basically just Matt Smith yelling at you to look at his muscles. That being said, I am greatly intrigued to watch this flick and try and peel back the surreal layers.

And speaking of peeling, a third trailer (though it’s billed as a featurette for some reason) has now also dropped, and once again it has that same combination of un-logic, enticing cast and a gripping audio-visual angle. Also, Christina Hendricks peeling her own face off. As they say on the street: For realz, dawg!

A single mother is swept into a dark underworld while her son discovers an underwater town.

I have no idea what I just watched or listened to, I just know that I really really need to watch and listen to it in its entirety again! And luckily I can do just that with the awesome haunting electronica track featured in the trailer, which is “Shell Game” by Johnny Jewel’s band Glass Candy.

Lost River also stars Iain De Caestecker, Saoirse Ronan, Ben Mendelsohn and Eva Mendes. It is scheduled for limited international release on April 10, 2015.

  1. Ben Mendelsohn has become a must-watch actor for me. He’s been absolutely killing it recently and plays compelling characters so completely.
