I was going to start this article by stating that a cappella comedy Pitch Perfect was one of by guiltiest of movie pleasures from 2012, but then I remembered that there was damn near nothing to feel guilty of because the film was just that aca-awesome, and anybody who watches it and disagrees is clearly a Cylon.

The film (along with her brilliant Twitter feed) catapulted Anna Kendrick from just another cute and funny co-star to vying with Jennifer Lawrence for the role as the Internet’s girlfriend. Not only was the film a massive surprise hit with both critics and audiences alike (pulling in $113 million off a $17 million budget) but Kendrick’s catchy rendition of “Cups” from the movie would go to claim the #6 spot on the US Billboard Top 100. That song got stuck in people’s heads (something that Kendrick has apologized for in her own funny way), meaning that sequel was definitely on the cards.

And now that follow-up film is here, but this time the Barden Bellas are leaving behind the college a capella circuit and setting their sights on the much bigger prize of the A Cappella World Championships. Elizabeth Banks – who played one half of the scathing a cappella competition commentary team in the first film – will not only be reprising her role but has also taken over helming duties in her directing debut. And based on this first trailer, she’s shown no first time nerves and has nailed this sequel, well, pitch perfect.

The Barden Bellas are back in Pitch Perfect 2, the follow-up to summer 2012’s smash hit. The comedy is helmed by Elizabeth Banks, co-star and producer of Pitch Perfect, and produced by Paul Brooks, Max Handelman and Banks. Writer Kay Cannon returns to the team to pen the next chapter.

Pitch Perfect 2 also stars Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, Alexis Knapp, Adam DeVine, Hailee Steinfeld, Ester Dean, Kelley Jakle, Hana Mae Lee, Katey Sagal and John Michael Higgins. It will be singing up a storm from May 1, 2015.
