There’s a lot of buzz around the upcoming Wachowski Starship flick Jupiter Ascending, but truth be told, the first trailer didn’t do the scope of the film any justice. Fortunately, this second trailer does. And then some.

From the streets of Chicago to the far-flung galaxies whirling through space, “Jupiter Ascending” tells the story of Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), who was born under a night sky, with signs predicting she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

There are two things to take away from this trailer. One: Channing Tatum still looks ridiculous with all those leopard genes spliced into him, as he now resembles what Mr Spock would look like if he was a diehard fan of Sting. Two: My eyes are bleeding from all those visual effects. It’s one thing to craft something that looks realistic, but the artistic influence here looks like someone 3D-scanned the Louvre, added jet-packs and threw it into space. Hot damn, that is some impressive visual wizardry.

Jupiter Ascending also stars Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, James D’Arcy, Tim Pigott-Smith, and Doona Bae. It’ll be claiming Earth on July 18.

I’m such an unashamed Wachowskis fanboy. Hell, I even really love Speed Racer. So this has me tingling in my nethers.

Was so worried when it said it was from the makers of The Matrix… but this looks like it’s from the makers of the first Matrix movie… and that’s awesome
