Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

So remember that moment in A-Team when the team essentially flew a tank, and everybody in the cinema was like “What is up with this retarded crap?!” because “flying” a tank into a lake and then driving it back out again is possibly the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard? Yeah, about that…

Maths FTW!

If you’re a Ster Kinekor Club member and you’ve got nothing better to do tonight, then you may want to click this link to see how you can score free tickets to a special preview screening of Life of Pi tonight. Now at the time of writing this, there were still tickets available, so hurry hurry hurry!

It’s been all quiet on the Star Wars rumour front for the last few weeks, which is just completely unacceptable. I mean, what else am I supposed to get irrationally excited about? But thanks to Reuters, they’ve just provided some fresh new fuel for the rumour mill. During an article about the Mayan temple in Tikal, Guatemala – used by Lucas as the set for the rebel base on Yavin 4 in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope – they mentioned this little tidbit:

“…Yavin 4 and the rebel base return to the Star Wars plot in the forthcoming Episode VII, announced in October by the Walt Disney Co, in which Skywalker comes back to the planet to build a Jedi Knight academy. However, fans said that Disney will likely film those scenes in a studio rather than return to Tikal.”

Now Reuters list absolutely zero sources, or indicate who these “fans” are, so it could all just be wishful thinking, but it does sort of make sense that the new Jedi academy should feature in the next film.

A new production still image for Iron Man 3 has been released showing an armour clad Tony Stark looking a little worse for wear. Don’t worry though, it’s nothing a few billion dollars and an alchohol fueled quip won’t fix.

It’s been confirmed: Ricky Gervais will officially be hanging out with guys who spend their days with their arms up fluffy red boy’s butts. Yes, the English funnyman will leading The Muppets on their next cinematic adventure. Gervais tweeted the news last night, confirming a week long speculation:

“I have just signed up to play the lead in the next Muppet Movie. I have the biggest trailer but Kermit will spend some time in my sink.”

Constantin Films has acquired the film rights to Neal Schusterman’s best selling sci-fi novel Unwind, which explores a dystopian future where parents have the right to have their under 18 children “unwound”, i.e. have their organs transplanted to different donors for monetary compensation.

Here’s the official blurb for the book:

Connor’s parents want to be rid of him because he’s a troublemaker. Risa has no parents and is being unwound to cut orphanage costs. Lev’s unwinding has been planned since his birth, as part of his family’s strict religion. Brought together by chance, and kept together by desperation, these three unlikely companions make a harrowing cross-country journey, knowing their lives hang in the balance. If they can survive until their eighteenth birthday, they can’t be harmed — but when every piece of them, from their hands to their hearts, are wanted by a world gone mad, eighteen seems far, far away.

Can I just say, future parents are dicks.

Like most of you guys, I hate to do something when somebody else can just do it for me (which reminds: DARRYN, MORE PEELED GRAPES!). So instead of me drawing up a list of the worst movies of 2012 and telling you why they suck, how about we just let them review themselves?

No sense of humour disclaimer: Now clearly we all have different tastes and some of you might not agree that those movies suck, but just have a laugh at it, ok?

The last member of Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. team has been cast for the Marvel/ABC TV series. Nashville star Chloe Bennet will be playing Skye, “a confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it. She’s edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature.”

Now if Chloe is the last cast member on the show, you may be wondering what’s happening with Samuel L Jackson, as there’s been no mention of his Head of SHIELD, Nick Fury, joining the production. Well, you’re going to wondering right along side Jackson himself, as he knows about as much as we do, but he does have a couple of ideas:

“I don’t know. I keep hearing about it, and I haven’t talked to Joss about it, but in my mind, I would tend to think that he would, if nothing else, be like Charlie in ‘Charlie’s Angels.’ At least be the voice!”

The indie crime flick Sushi Girl, starring Mark Hamill, Danny Trejo and Jeff Fahey among others, will only be released on Blu Ray and DVD in February, but it’s already popping up on popular torrent sites. This prompted Kern Saxton, the film’s co-writer, director, editor and producer to hop on over to one of there den of thieves and give them a piece of his mind. Only it’s a much calmer, level-head and nicely worded piece than I would ever have expected.

It looks like we’ll more than a year to wait for writer-director David Ayer’s Ten, which will be an especially long wait seeing how much I loved his latest film, End of Watch. Open Road Films has set an official release date of January 24, 2014 for the action-thriller which sees Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of “an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house, they think their work is done – until, one-by-one, the ten members mysteriously start to be eliminated.”

The film co-stars Joe Manganiello, Sam Worthington, Harold Perrineau, Terrence Howard, Max Martini, Josh Holloway, Olivia Williams and Mireille Enos.

And just as a reminder, here’s a previously released pic of Ahnuld in costume for the film, looking like the world’s most badass grandfather.

Looks like Pitch Perfect, the surprisingly good, feel-good a capella comedy hit, might be getting a sequel. One of the film’s stars Skylar Astin, revealed to Movie Web that Universal has already started with some plans for another film:

“I do have a meeting with a Universal representative next week. And I know that Rebel Wilson had hers last weekend. It’s definitely a talking point.”

At this point though, there’s no word yet from the film’s lead, Anna Kendrick.

Yes, it’s another video clip looking back at “…of 2012” and in this case that ellipsis is reserved for the Best Action Scenes, all spliced together to the sound of Wagner’s “Flight of the Valkyries”.

Honestly, they could have saved a lot of time, if they had just put up the entire film for The Raid.
