Dracula (Adam Sandler) and Mavis (Selena Gomez) in HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, an animated comedy from Sony Pictures Animation.

One of my favourite animated films of recent history, has to be Hotel Transylvania. Funny, well animated and overall damn good fun, it’s the kind of movie that I’d love to see a sequel squeezed out of. And after doing a great job at the eleventh hour on that project, it looks like Sony Animation wants director Genddy Tartakovsky to stick around for quite a while longer.

According to THR, Tartakovsky will be back for a sequel in hotel management, with scripting underway for a release next year of September 25.  Adam Sandler and Robert Smigel are writing the script for the sequel, so expect the usual Grown-Ups crew of David Spade, Steve Buscemi and Kevin James to rock up for the sequel. Strangely, I have no complaints about this at all.

Tartakovsky is also getting the chance to helm some original work as well, titled Genndy Tartakovsky’s Can You Imagine? That’s most likely the reason why Tartakovsky is sticking around, as well as doing work on a new Popeye movie, starring the spinach-obsessed sailor. Does that sound like a massive workload to you? Well it is, but it’s the kind of schedule that Tartakovsky apparently excels at, as Sony Pictures Digital Productions Bob Osher explained:

In the world of television, they work on multiple episodes simultaneously while also keeping an eye on an entire season. He’s used to, and likes, a high level of workload.

Tartakovsky has come a long way since the days of Dexter’s Labarotory and Samurai Jack. And Sony having his genius in their corner, is the mother of all aces up their sleeves. Tartakovsky was the sixth director to take over the mangled mess that was Hotel Transylvania, rewriting it and streamlining it into the success that it was. That movie made over $358 million worldwide. So you can see why Tartakovsky is regarded as the man these days in animation circles.

Something wrong gentlemen? You come here prepared to read the words of a madman, and instead found a lunatic obsessed with comics, Batman and Raul Julia's M Bison performance in the 1994 Street Fighter movie? Fine! Keep your bio! In fact, now might be a good time to pray to it!
