Ghosts are real in this first trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's CRIMSON PEAK

I don’t believe in ghosts at all. But I also never used to believe that I would see a live-action Hollywood blockbuster where a giant robot uses a freight ship as baseball bat to bliksem a giant sea-monster in the face, and writer-director Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim) sure changed that. Maybe he can do the same for ghouls with Crimson Peak, his upcoming Gothic horror story that boasts an all-star cast and now also a fantastically moody trailer.

Del Toro’s famed visual imagination seems to be in full swing here with just incredibly sumptuous set design and of course – as is his trademark – some super creepy things that go bump in the night.

The trailer claims this to be Del Toro’s “ultimate masterpiece” and based on the level of acting talent here and the director’s perfect fit for this genre, that may just turn out to not just be promotional hyperbole.

In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.

Crimson Peak stars Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam. It starts haunting your movie house from October 16, 2015.

This looks good, actually. Looks and sounds like the house will almost have its own character… Nice! Looking forward to checking this out.

The trailer didn’t do much for me. But considering how good The Devil’s Backbone was, I reckon this could be super scary.
