I have a lot of anxiety about this Red Band trailer for AMERICAN ULTRA!

Did you have a hard time believing the news that Jesse Eisenberg, that kid from The Social Network who spoke like an aggro Woody Allen, was going to be the new Lex Luthor? Well, then you may just find your plausibility stretched even further to know that he’s now also a super-spy action hero. Who just so happens to also be a stoner. Yes, the times they are a-changing!

This is all thanks to American Ultra, a new action comedy penned by Chronicle’s Max Landis and directed by Project X’s Nima Nourizadeh. Those are both movies I really enjoyed, and from the looks of things from this first Red Band trailer for the film, I’m more than likely going to enjoy this too. I mean, who wouldn’t enjoy seeing the guy who invented Facebook kill a man with a spoon?

And oh, by the way! Don’t you guys just find it super annoying when you’ve already made your mind up to not like somebody and then they go and do something that you actually find appealing? Yes, I’m looking at you, Kristen Stewart! First Camp X-Ray then Clouds of Sils Maria and now this? And using multiple facial expressions? You better slow down before you hurt somebody!

“American Ultra” is a fast-paced action comedy about Mike (Eisenberg), a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend, Phoebe (Stewart), is suddenly turned upside down. Unbeknownst to him, Mike is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. In the blink of an eye, as his secret past comes back to haunt him, Mike is thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation and is forced to summon his inner action-hero in order to survive.

American Ultra also stars Topher Grace, Bill Pullman, John Leguizamo, Connie Britton, Walton Goggins and Tony Hale. It is scheduled for release on August 21, 2015.
