I really had to think long and hard to remember The Mechanic, Jason Statham’s 2011 remake of the 1970’s Charles Bronson action thriller. I can definitely remember watching the movie and thinking it’s not bad in skop, skiet en donner kind of way, but as to the actual details of who Statham was kicking in the face and why – because I’m fairly confident some Statham face-kicking went down – I’m drawing a complete blank.

And I’m sure I’m not the only one as the movie drew a straight down the middle 53% approval rating on RottenTomatoes. You would think a movie as unmemorable as that would probably not warrant a sequel but you would apparently be wrong (the fact it doubled its $35 million budget certainly didn’t hurt).

Which brings us to the first trailer for Mechanic: Resurrection, which dropped last night. And, yep, you guessed Jason Statham is kicking people in the face again (Hey, play to your strengths, I guess). He’s also getting up to the type of urban climbing that will make the Mission: Impossible franchise jealous. Whether this will all help the movie to leave a more lasting impression than its predecessor is uncertain, but at least it’s boasting an attractive location as it was shot entirely in Thailand, and it has a hot cast which also includes Jessica Alba, Tommy Lee Jones and Michelle Yeoh.

Check out the trailer below.

Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) returns as the Mechanic in the sequel to the 2011 action thriller. When the deceitful actions of a cunning but beautiful woman (Jessica Alba) force him to return to the life he left behind, Bishop’s life is once again in danger as he has to complete an impossible list of assassinations of the most dangerous men in the world.

Mechanic: Resurrection was directed by Dennis Gansel (We Are the Night) and is scheduled for release in the US on August 26, 2016.
