It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen or heard anything from Brian De Palma’s Passion. So long, in fact, that I had actually forgotten that it was coming out. You would think that a movie heavily featuring Noomi Rapace playing tonsil hockey with Rachel McAdams would be immune to being forgotten, but alas.
Never fear for your early onset Alzheimer’s though, as a new trailer has now come along to remind us all about its erotic thriller-ness. And also to apparently tell us the entire plot.
The offices of a prominent multinational corporation is the setting for this story of a power struggle between two contemporary women. Isabelle has unlimited admiration for her direct superior, Christine, a woman well-schooled in the ways of power. Christine enjoys holding sway over Isabelle, leads her one step at a time and ever more deeply into a game of seduction and manipulation, of dominance and servitude. The game is played for keeps, and there is no turning back.
Passion didn’t exactly get an overwhelming positive response when it played the Festival circuit earlier in the year, but even so, I have a feeling that the film is far better than that trailer makes it out be. Besides for giving away most of the plot, the trailer also makes the film look like one of those bad “thrillers” that Tyler Perry produces when he’s taking a break from dressing like an old woman.
Passion is out on VOD on August 1, 2013 and will be receiving a theatrical release on August 30, 2013.
