Michael Keaton terrorizes Michelle Monaghan in this international trailer for PENTHOUSE NORTH

With Jose Padilha’s Robocop reboot, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s ensemble comedy Birdman and Larry David’s HBO movie Clear History on his horizon, it seems like Michael Keeton is making a comeback. This is great news, because for a man who was once both Batman and Beetlejuice, his career was getting dangerously close to him heading up a new CSI spinoff.

But while things are looking rosy now, that wasn’t the case back in 2011 when he made Penthouse North with Michelle Monaghan. Stuck on the shelf since then, it’s now finally getting a release, but based on this trailer I think somebody needs to put it back.

Sara Taylor (Michelle Monaghan), a photojournalist blinded in Iraq, is forced to play a deadly game of cat and mouse with the sadistic criminal Hollander (Michael Keaton) – a man who will stop at nothing to get a fortune of stolen diamonds hidden in Sara’s penthouse apartment. Although Sara claims to not know where the diamonds are, Hollander utilizes psychological and physical torture in an effort to break Sara’s resistance. But Sara fights back. As the suspense builds to a shattering climax, Sara gains the advantage. But will it be enough to save her?

I can’t be the only one that thinks that this looks the trailer for an episode of some TV series that gets cancelled midway through the first season, right? Keaton and Monaghan are decent enough actors that they can make most things work, but this seems to be beyond their abilities. And yes, this may just be a case of an okay-ish movie with a horrible trailer, but it’s certainly not going to be doing their careers any favours.

There’s been no release date set yet for Penthouse North.

The first bit looked quite interesting… blind person not realising their partner is dead, walking around as if all is well…. then it goes to like ‘canceled series’ status and the music is just terrible, makes me think this is an 80s slasher… and the premise… not sure how a blind woman will beat up two hardcore thieves… I just don’t see it.

I hope its a good movie ‘cos those two are great actors and I generally like what they do…

forgive me for my lame pun above, I couldn’t resist.
