It’s Oscar season, and right now, movies about French people trying to be less miserable and other artsy stuff will most likely hog the headlines in this busy time for the industry. Testicles to that. What I’ve got here, is a pirates film that has 0% Johnny Depp, and 200% more space, lasers, robots and massive ships.
I’ve got a film that looks like an absolute stunner, has a legacy dating back to the seventies and will drop-kick a space sword into your retinas. I’m talking about Space Pirate Captain Harlock! Who is a pirate! In space! I can’t stress this enough! Exclamations!
If you’re a fan of anime, then the title of this film should ring a few bells. Created way back in 1978 by Leiji Matsumoto, Space Pirate Captain Harlock pits the title character against an invading force known as the Mazone, who are slowly driving mankind to the brink of extinction across the cosmos due to the apathy that our species has succumbed to after reaching our peak
Standing as a beacon of hope, Harlock commands a rag-tag group of space-buccaneers that never surrenders, and is always ready to fight, setting an example for the rest of humanity. The upcoming film features a script from Harutoshi” Mobile Suit Gundam UC” Fukui, with Shinji “Appleseed” Aramaki directing.
It’s out, later this year in the North American Fall.
