New MAN OF STEEL trailer sheds light on the man behind the shield

It’s been a while since we’ve seen any real footage of the upcoming Zack Snyder directed take on the last son of Krypton. July gave us a tantalising glimpse at the tale that Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan was producing, in a short teaser filled with sweeping visuals and a more down to earth approach.

And if this new trailer is anything to go by, it looks like we’re in for a film that stars a much moodier and reality-based hero in blue tights.

If there’s one thing that I don’t want to see too much of, it’s the origin story of Superman. By now, everyone knows it, and it’d be a waste of a film to spend an hour explaining it all over again.

After all, the tale of how Superman came to be can be summed up in five simple lines:

Doomed Planet

Desperate scientist

Last hope

Kindly couple

Superman

Still, once the film gets past that obligatory hurdle out of Smallville, things look promising indeed. Say what you want about Zack Snyder, but the man knows how to stage a spectacle for the big screen, while we finally get a glimpse of Michael Shannon as the Kryptonian exile General Zod. A moody Superman can work, but I don’t want to see it at the expense of a character that is meant to be inspirational.

Man of Steel hits cinemas next year June 14, and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne and Russell Crowe.

Hopefully DC can finally make a good super hero movie that does not star Batman.

I really enjoyed Mark Waid’s “Superman: Birthright” which this seems to be borrowing heavily from, so I optimistically cautious. I will admit though, that I miss John William’s score something fierce. It was the ultimate in uplifting music.

Oh, you know Snyder will spend at least an hour going on about the origins story. In fact, that seems to be a huge theme here. But maybe the trailer isn’t showing all…

Then again, imo Superman should have been retired as a character a long time ago.

Have you seen Superman vs The Elite by any chance? It makes a great statement as to why Superman is still relevant today.

That would be a pretty damn awesome live-action film!
