You can’t keep a good franchise down, and that goes double for a bad one. Resident Evil is returning for yet another stab at the zombie genre, and it’s got a release date added to that resurrection, meaning that it should be kicking off principal photography pretty soon.
Shocktillyoudrop revealed the new Resident Evil film, which will follow on from the Oval Office cliffhanger of the previous movie, Resident Evil: Retribution. Director Paul Anderson is most likely a lock to return to the director’s chair, and with the character of Alice so firmly ingrained into the movie franchise, Milla Jovovich is likely to return as well.
None of that has been confirmed though, but what is known is the release date, of September 12 2014. So why is Sony keen on making yet another Resident Evil film, you ask? Simple. Money. The Resident Evil movies have grossed quite a bit of cash over the years, resulting in a franchise that has earned almost billion Washingtons so far. Here’s a breakdown of the kind of cash that we’re talking here, after international markets have had their fill of slow-motion Jovovich in 3D:
- Resident Evil – $102 million
- Resident Evil: Apocalypse – $129 million
- Resident Evil: Extinction – $147 million
- Resident Evil: Afterlife – $296 million
- Resident Evil: Retribution – $221 million
Can’t argue with those numbers.
