I’ve been keeping an eye on Neil Jordan’s Byzantium for a while now, not only because Gemma Arterton does non-PG-13 rated things to my nether regions, but also because this appears like it could be that most rarest of films lately: a vampire film that doesn’t suck. This is something that Jordan has some past affinity for though, seeing as how he was the guy who brought us Interview With a Vampire.
And judging from this trailer, Byzantium will be bringing that same mix of drama, romanticism and tragedy. Oh and Gemma Arterton, did I mention Gemma Arterton?
Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara (Gemma Arterton) meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.
That trailer certainly seems to paint a far more dramatic tone than the previous previews, something which is carried through to this pair of clips that have been released with the trailer.
Byzantium will be taking a bite out of cinemas on June 28, 2013.
