There's a lot to digest in these 16 character posters and new teaser trailer for THE EXPENDABLES 3!

Thanks to the work of Sylvester Stallone and his two Expendables movies, old people shooting guns are now considered cool, and not just menaces to society as my grandma and her M4 Carbine found out (hey, she lives in a rough neighbourhood!). But sooner or later, some young whippersnappers also need a chance to blow stuff up with the geriatrics, and that’s exactly what’s happening in The Expendables 3.

So to introduce us to these young faces, plus a few new/familiar old ones, Lionsgate have released a new “roll call” teaser trailer, so take it away Sly and the boys and girl.

And to give you another, even closer look at all those faces (and in the case of Stallone, veins), the studio – via ComingSoon, Collider, IGN and JoBlo – unveiled 16 new character posters, that seem to imply that these people are very, very happy when they have a gun in their hand. And no, that’s not a sexual euphemism.

While I’m still not 100% sold on some of the action credentials of some of these guys (gee, Kelsey Grammer, could you look any more frumpy?), nor am I really familiar with director Patrick Hughes’ work, I just had so much damn fun with The Expendables 2 that I’m rather excited to see this. I’m hoping and praying that the fact that Hughes has landed the gig to direct the English-language remake of The Raid, is because he knows his way around an action scene, and if that is the case, and he can just combine that with the last film’s self-deprecating humor and mockery, then this could be quite good. Or suck. Whatever.

The Expendables 3 stars *deep breath now* Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz, Glen Powell and Kelsey Grammer, and will be blowing up cinemas in a gratuitous explosion on August 15, 2014.

Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables — but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

  1. The Expendables was never meant to be a good movie and you should not walk into the cinema expecting one… It’s just a stupid cliche action movie that is just really fun to watch. And that is why I love these movies!

Exactly. There is non ‘oh, subtle, I see what the director is getting at, he’s attacking the contrived nature of socialism and the vacuous society it’s creating’ bullshit. BANG! BOOM! FUUUUN!

Sly really needs to cut back on the steroids now.

Dolph is still a favourite for me. And, of course, Arnie.

    Han Solo, is that you?
Pity Sylvester has had enough face lifts to make him look like an actual hard plastic GI Joe toy
