I love movies that are whack, movies like Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, so it is with great glee that I present to you a trailer for the upcoming Inherent Vice, a mix of cops, kidnapping plots of billionaire boyfriends, drugs, and a very different looking Joaquin Phoenix.

The film’s directer  Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights) also shot this trailer and it seems to push the madness that the film is going to contain which I think is a very good thing. Also, for our brothers and sisters over in the UK, you will see that you have the opportunity to watch a preview of the movie tomorrow at the Prince Charles Cinema in Londony at 1900 PM and 10:15 PM, you lucky buggers.

The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Pynchon and sounds insane. Here’s the official synopsis:

When private eye Doc Sportello’s ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin…well, easy for her to say.

It’s the tail end of the psychedelic `60s and paranoia is running the day and Doc knows that “love” is another of those words going around at the moment, like “trip” or “groovy,” that’s being way too overused—except this one usually leads to trouble.

With a cast of characters that includes surfers, hustlers, dopers and rockers, a murderous loan shark, LAPD Detectives, a tenor sax player working undercover, and a mysterious entity known as the Golden Fang, which may only be a tax dodge set up by some dentists… Part surf noir, part psychedelic romp — all Thomas Pynchon.

Have a watch and enjoy!

Inherent Vice has an all-star cast that includes Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Benicio del Toro and Owen Wilson. A movie with just two of those names would have me interested!

The movie has an international release date of 12 December but nothing so far on local distribution, we’ll keep you updated.
