You look at the film career of Jean Claude van Damme, and you’ll notice a trend in all of his movies. Not a single one of them were intentionally funny. JCVD made a name for himself as an action star over the last couple of decades. And now for the first time ever, he’s branching out into comedy.
And I freakin’ love what I’m seeing.
Legendary action star Jean-Claude Van Damme takes on his first comedic role and joins Adam Brody, Rob Huebel, Kristen Schaal, Megan Boone, and Dennis Haysbert in “Welcome to the Jungle”. This laugh-out-loud comedy follows a group of unsuspecting office workers who find themselves stranded on a desert island when a corporate retreat led by unhinged former Marine Storm Rothchild (VAN DAMME) goes horribly wrong. Now Chris (BRODY) and his co-workers must battle nature — and each other — to survive!
JCVD as a boot camp instructor stuck on an island with white collar workers who quickly go all Lord of the Flies on one another when their pilot decides to die of unnaturally convenient causes. This. Is. Genius. And just look at Van Damme. He’s having a ball and just eating up all the scenery. The best bit though? He’s playing it so straight, that it works beautifully.
Welcome to the jungle hits screens next year February.

You’re right, this IS genius! Or it could be really awful. Then again, I’ve come to realise that Van Damme is the one star whose films I’ll always give a stab. I’ve even seen all of the Universal Soldiers. I regret that now, but I saw them.
