Aliens: Colonial Marines PC specs bust out

2 min read

Gearbox’s Aliens: Colonial Marines has been in development since at least 2008. It’s finally out in a month’s time. I’m most intrigued by the game because I’m keen to see if Gearbox can do something contemporary that isn’t Borderlands, but also because it serves as a direct , canonical sequel to the last Aliens film. That said, I’m becoming a little worried by the relative lack of media and hype for the game; and the game’s PC specs don’t instil much confidence either.

Here’s what kind of hardware you’ll need to get the most out of your Xenomorph hunting action:

  • Minimum Specs:
    Operating System: Windows XP SP3
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Dual Core Processor
RAM: 2GB RAM (XP),2GB RAM (Vista)
HD: 20GB free hard disk space
    Optical Drive: DVD
    Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible
    Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce 8500/ATI Radeon HD 2600 (256 minimum)
  • Recommended Specs:
Operating System: Windows XP SP3/Vista/Windows 7
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Quad Core Processor
    RAM: 2GB RAM. HD
    20GB free hard disk space
    Optical Drive: DVD
    Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX560/ATI Radeon HD 5850 (512 minimum)

The huge amount of storage it requires, probably for larger textures aside, there’s nothing in those rather accessible specs that leads me to believe the PC version will be anything more than a console port. Not that I’m concerned; this is one game I’ll be picking up for the Wii U.

After playing ZombiU and becoming pretty enthralled by how much extra tension that second screen adds, and how it’ll no doubt be used in Aliens to ping…well, aliens, I think the Wii U version’s the one to go for. Especially if Kalahari honours this pre-order price…

Still, with it being in development hell for so long, I think a it of hopeful, optimistic caution is warranted.
