FFD: I wish I could love you

It’s not feasible, as far as money and time go, to love and play all games. There are also games and genres that, try as you might, you’re just unable to fathom, or become proficient at. I understand that. I, for example, just don’t get MOBAs. I try, but I just don’t see the appeal. I really wish I did though; looking through my steam lists, I see friends pouring hundreds of hours in to things like DOTA, and I really wish I could be part of that.

I just don’t get it though. When I’ve tried the genre, it just grates; I don’t enjoy the mechanics, I don’t enjoy the competitiveness of it all and I’d rather then run off and play something else. Or cry. It’s much the same with games like Total War. I love history, and I love the idea of controlling massive armies – but I just can’t bring myself to actually enjoying the games. Same goes for Monster Hunter. When it sells a bajillion copies in Japan, it has to be doing something right. Why can’t I find what that right is and enjoy the games myself?

I’m sure you all must have that genre or game that you sit watching from the other side of the window, wishing you could appreciate or enjoy as its fan base goes mental. Tell us: Which games or genres do you just wish you could love?

I love everything that isn’t SPERTZZZZZ.

This topic is a bit irrelevant for me. I just love great games. Any genre, any age, any graphic style. I have fond memories from every genre (actually including racing games, which sadly falls under SPERTZZZZ).

Pokemon and Monster Hunter. Wtf is up with those two games. I’ve tried liking them both, but I just don’t get it.

And Halo; only difference is I really don’t want to love Halo, it really just isn’t a very good game.

I’m a bit on the fence with that one tbh.
I love investing in building a nice big base in RTS games, setting up formations and defenses and attack strategies. And of course watching the chaos of a big battle.
But in TBS games I love micromanaging, proper planning and expansion. I also tend to spend approx 1-4 hours per RTS game and 8-10 hours per TBS game. So I guess it’s all about what I’m in the mood for at that moment.

No. The idea behind it is awesome: Mine ore to get funds. Build a base. Train troops. ATTACCKKKK!!!
        Sounds great on paper.
Worst though is those missions where you have a handful of troops and a map containing 32 enemy bases. And the mission briefing is capture all enemy bases. Good luck…

I wish I could love COD. Feels like I miss out. I tried the PVP for Destiny (shock and horror) last night before I got disconnected from PSN. Some games were fun and our team even won a few games. But then we played against a very good team and my team started ragequitting left and right. If they could get some sort of balancing right I would buy COD tomorrow.

Also the ones I love is just to short and I feel like I could have spend better money buying a AAA game. I know I might be missing out on great games but there is just not enough time for everything.

When I pre ordered D3 and received the special edition I was all bright eyed in awe but then after I had installed it I blew up in a rage fit over Error 37. Only since whatshisname got his ass removed as head of development, thats when I started to love Diablo 3.

Please, if you are referring to PD2, then that is a horrible example of a bad link.

We should do the L4D2 and Evolve thing!

We all need to do L4D2 again. I’m still contemplating downloading Evolve.

cant stand MOBA’s (dota, league of legends, etc) it seems to be a watered down version of Warcraft arena PVP or am I missing something?

I wish I liked MOBA more. My problem with it is the community – when my friends and I used to play together for fun over LAN (either 3v3 or 5vAI) it was quite fun. Online? Not a chance.
I can say one other thing though – I wish I didn’t like WoW at all. I enjoyed being able to do my own thing most of the time, but would love it more if I could play without certain morons standing in the damn flames, not protecting the healers, and then complaining about my DPS while I run around avoiding killy stuff and protecting the healer who was running out of Mana the whole time because he tried to keep the a-holes alive…that is the NR 1 reason I don’t play anymore. But darn it I am so tempted!

Skyrim, I play for about a week then get bored of it. Couple of weeks later I create a new character because I “can’t remember my old class so well” or “sword/shield is boring” then I play for a week or two and quit again QQ
