Blackthorne

Some members of the community here just won’t shut up about Blizzard’s Blackthorne; one of those games from the 90’s that Blizzard made back when they were still primarily a console developer. It, along with gems like The Lost Vikings and the frankly amazing Rock ‘N Roll Racing,  was one of the finest games the company made. It’s now available for free.

All you need to do to claim the game is to log in to your Battle.net account, and go to the Download Game Clients page, under the Games & Codes tab. At the bottom is a new section titled Classic Games, and Blackthorne can be downloaded for Windows. Gratis, free and for nothing. Right now, it’s unfortunately only applicable to US Battle.net accounts – but I sincerely hope it comes to the rest of us.

It seems that it hasn’t been updated one iota, though it will now run on your modern-day computer without issues. If you’ve never played the game, you really should – mostly because that backwards shotgun blast is just so damned cool.

Seems Blizzard might release a few more of its classics, or this is some sort of hint that we’ll be getting a Blackthorne sequel. Yes please!

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
