I’ll never forget the first time I laid eyes on a Tamagotchi. Oddly enough, I even remember what year it was –1997. I was in grade 4 at the time, 7-8 years old, and all sorts of jealous when two people in my grade were the life of the class with their virtual pet on a keychain. Like any school craze though, it was only a matter of days before everybody else had one. After much pleading with my parents, I finally got my own. It was a little dinosaur version, and I loved it very much…
For a month or two at least anyway, before moving on to the next best thing. Was it YoYos? Marbles? I can’t remember. All I know is that being a kid was a much simpler time, where even a boring digital pet could keep me enthralled for hours on end.
