Last month’s Games with Gold was a little underwhelming, I thought – save for the fact that it included one of the very best games that has ever been made: Peggle. There have been rumours floating about that June’s Xbox Games With Gold would be quite special, including the likes of Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock Infinite and Ryse.
Those rumours are all complete codswallop; a load of old tosh to incite the massive. Instead, here’s what you’ll be getting:
Xbox One owners get the quirky, silly and goatly Goat Simulator as their first game. Essentially Tony Hawk, but with goats, the game will be available to download for the whole month. Later in the month, you’ll be able to download Ubisoft’s open-world CarPG, The Crew. A bit of Marmite game, The Crew has its share of fans and detractors – and you probably didn’t give it a go to see which side of the fence you’d sit.
The Xbox 360 games (which are all backwards compatible) are a little better, I think. It kicks off with one of the best platformers in recent memory – but one you’ve all probably played. It’s the excellent Super Meat Boy. The next game is probably the best of the lot. You’ll be able to download and play XCOM: Enemy Unknown in the second half of June. It’s a PC game at heart, sure, but the console versions were surprisingly good.
To sum up:
- “Goat Simulator”: Available from June 1-30 on Xbox One
- “The Crew”: Available from Just 16-July 15 on Xbox One
- “Super Meat Boy”: Available from June 1-15 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One
- “XCOM Enemy Unknown”: Available from June 16-30 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One
Not a bad month – and one that comes with two AAA retail games.
