Pokémon’s latest mega evolutions won’t be playable in X and Y

I'VE BEEN TO THE DANGER ZONE

Everyone has their favourite Pokémon generation. Their favourite land to explore, battle and train in. Last year’s Pokémon X and Y was a pretty massive hit, and even with the release of the upcoming Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, you can bet that some folks will want to stay in the Kalos region. Which is all fine and dandy, but you won’t be taking your latest mega-evolved Pokémon with you to that region.

That’s according to NTower in the video above, as Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori confirmed that Pokémon X and Y wouldn’t have any support for the latest mega evolutions. Of which there are plenty. Lots and lots of mega evolutions. That’s because the base game itself doesn’t have those specific Pokémon and their animations coded into it, which makes transfers pretty pointless anyway.

Then again, as a Pokémon fan myself, I know how each new game usually results in the previous one being ditched and all attention paid to the latest iteration anyway. And stop laughing. I’m not the guy sitting with a shelf full of various Assassin’s Creed, Call Of Duty and Battlefield games, now am I?

Other interesting tidbits from the interview:

  • Some locations have changed, and even the story has been altered
  • There will be underwater trainer battles
  • Discovering the origin of mega evolution forms a crucial part of the story
  • PSS/PokéMonAmi/Supertraining will all be present in the remakes

I just got through the demo last night for Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby. And I quite dug it. The 3D graphics have most certainly been given some extra tweaking, the general user interface pops better and you can now make your trainer do the creep. Yes, that creep.
