Tekken Revolution coming to your PS3, for free

1 min read

Joining Dead or Alive Five Ultimate in kicking off a new trend of free-to-play fighting games is Tekken Revolution – which will be hitting the PSN later this week. Coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3, this free game is something “you asked for.”

There’s no word on just how it’ll be monetised – but my guess is a bunch of paid-for characters, costumes and stages. Characters will apparently be able to be levelled up, like a pseudo RPG, so perhaps microtransactions will help them level faster.

So why the PS3, and not Microsoft’s Xbox 360? Probably because of Microsoft’s odd policies regarding free-to-play games on their ecosystem. Don’t try asking Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada – who had this to say to somebody asking that very question on Twitter.

“Ask Microsoft yourself. I already asked them about free to play of the console last year.”

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
