SOMA (1)

I don’t handle horror games well. The reason for that might be because of some solid scare design, some well managed use of knowing when to to do a jump-scare or the fact that I’m an absolute coward. So you can bet your clean pants that a game such as SOMA is going to have me assuming the foetal position when it arrives.

Here’s the latest trailer for SOMA, dubbed ‘Theta’. If this is your first time hearing about the game, here’s what you need to know: It’s being developed by Frictional Games, the same chaps behind Penumbra and Amnesia, so you know it has a pedigree behind it. Here’s the official synopsis for the game, from the website:

The radio has gone silent on PATHOS-2. As isolation bears down on the staff of the remote research facility, strange things are happening.

Machines are taking on human traits and alien constructions have started to interfere with routine. The world around them is turning into a nightmare.

The only way out is to do something unimaginable.

SOMA is out later in 2015 for PS4 and PC. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go buy some hair dye because my fabulous mop top has suddenly turned white after watching that footage.

  1. I already knew SOMA was terrifying. Who in their right minds would want to play GTAV with Rince & oVg?

Right. I think it’s time I got my lawyers involved here. *Calls Candy C**sh lawyers.
Rince: “Hi, I came up with the name SOMA for our GTAV team. They are calling their game SOMA. I want to sue them”.
Lawyers: “When did you think of the name?”
Rince: “After they had already submitted a trademark for it”.
Lawyers: “We’ll take the case and win!”

But what in the video makes it scary? I am all for a good scare like in F.E.A.R or The Conjuring, but am I missing something here?

I think we’re over the age threshold now though. The ghost probably only goes for younger victims.
