Yesterday, as promised, Mortal Kombat X on PC was patched up. According to NetherRealm, the patch was meant to bring the PC version of the game to parity with the console versions. Like the last patch, it weighs in at a monumental 15GBs. And it’s happened to break the game even more.
According to reports, those who’ve downloaded and run the patch have had their saved games wiped, removing all of their progress and hard-earned (or bought!) Krypt unlocks. Many say that restoring old saves doesn’t work, either. Netherrealm is aware of the new issues, and has said it’s removing and rolling back the patch until they figure out what’s going on. Unfortunately, the 15GB rollback doesn’t restore saves either.
We are temporarily removing the patch until we can pinpoint the cause of save data loss. We are actively working on this and will keep everyone posted as we work towards a fix. We sincerely apologize for this disruption.
Others have reported that the patch introduces other problems, specifically resolution issues. Here’s a look at what some are experiencing.
The PC version of MKX is nothing short of a train wreck, and High Voltage Software has once again proved its incompetence. It really is about time that publishers stop opting for the lowest bidder when hiring studios for ports – because in the end, it invariably costs them more money. Worse than that, it costs them far more in lost good will.
Here’s a video of High Voltage hard at work, trying to fix the problem (lovingly thiefed from neoGAF)

Hahahaha!!! Yep Yep Yep Yep Yep!! Aaaahhh, I needed to laugh as hard as I did now… Good one Geoff! In all honesty though, I fully agree, if you want to do a port to PC and you’ve had your fingers burnt a few times already, why!? Why on earth make the same mistake again? Anyway, 30GB of patches later and the game still doesn’t work? My question is what did they replace?

Cryengine to Unity engine conversion like all Early Access games like to do these days. 😛

You see, changing the whole game engine, which usually amounts to a relatively small part of the actual game, textures make up the majority, won’t amount to this much, the only explanation that I have is that they build the game for one specific dev pc build, if it works they take the whole damn thing and issue it as a patch, replacing everything, and then afterwards they go “Oh crap, well we didn’t expect that to happen…”

Different engines use different texture compression is what I meant. Also the 2 games I currently play that recently decided to change engines (The Forest and 7 Days to die) had massive game breaking bugs and issues afterwards.

That’s it though… I understand people changing engines after realising they can do much better with a new one, but this though…It’s too much…

Changing engines for me is usually the sign of a game going through development hell. Look at pretty much everything Gearbox except the flagship IP. Specifically looking at you Duke Nukem cause Aliens is not even worth mentioning (ah crap I mentioned them).

I see what you meant about High Voltage’s ports now. I’m enjoying SR4 but the shitty port work detracts from it. SR3 was miles ahead technically.

Firstly patches will wipe out your save game, then your PC and then your LIFE @_@

Good grief! 30Gb is almost the size of the game itself… I would be monumentally pissed.

Aggh people. You’re all being very silly. As one can see in the header, an inverted keyboard is needed, then the game works just fine!!!

15GB Later and the consumer suffers again. cant imagine how long it would have taken me to download the patch for it to potentially ruin the game, then have to download another 15gb patch to fix it. Just not acceptable. High Voltage should never be allowed to do ports again. PC gamers (or console games like myself) should have some protection, somehow!
