Will the Wii-U sink Nintendo?

2 min read

I’m a fan of the Wii-U, I desperately want one but right now my finances can’t stretch to get one, but it looks like I may be in the minority on this one and some people even believe the Wii-U could spell the end for Nintendo.

Michael Pachter is famous in the gaming industry for publicly stating his predictions for the future of gaming but there is a reason behind that. Michael Pachter works for Wedbush Securities and his job is to predict the financial future of companies and often video game companies.

His latest prediction is posted by Gamesbeat

“I think they misfired on the Wii U,It’s just not that different from the other two [existing] consoles, and the gameplay isn’t as unique as the Wii. They made a mistake, it’s something they probably can’t recover from.”

That’s quite the claim from the longest standing videogame company still in the hardware race but then again Michael has never liked the Wii-U with him already stating that he expects it to fail

Here, Here and even here

So do you think Michael is right and the Wii-U will sink Nintendo or does he just not get the direction that Nintendo is taking with this new console?

All I know is that I wanna play ZombiU

It’s very good. One of the few games for the Wii U so far that really has gotten what that system can do for gaming. Buy it now! It’s on sale for 30% off in the eShop.

Maybe it’s time to release another Mario game?

Tell me this preview of a Pokemon Center doesn’t make you want a Wii U pokemon game even more 🙂

      • Saint_Dee

Exactly, should they release a full fledged AAA pokemon title for the Wii U, I’m buying with my eyes closed… Lazygamer comment cherry popped xD.

  • Well, it’s been how long, and there’s still no demos available. No one will buy a console without testing it and the games.

    • manowaffles
      • Yes. Where do babies come from?

Also, I’ve been to most of the stores in PTA, but they all have videos of what the games look like. No demos as of yet, at least at Menlyn Park yesterday.

        • manowaffles

Storks bring them to mommies and daddies who want them. I can’t explain why the store you went to only has videos.

  • Hmm… Well me and my friends on different gaming levels and age range are having super awesome fun playing together and alone, so… Hmm… Heaters gonna heat? 😐

  • OVG

Some stores in America have been making family bundle packs with Wii games and nun chucks. Well it is backward compat but still NINTENDO need to change the flipping name.

    • manowaffles

I think it’s too late for that now. They need to advertise more to make people more aware of the difference though.

  • matthurstrsa

It might not be as successful as they’d hoped, but I very much doubt it will sink Nintendo.

  • Riaan

crazy. I have a wiiU, it’s friggn epic. The gamepad so many peeps claim is a gimmick, is awesome. From playing off screen when the TV is in use (great for keeping the GF busy while you’re watching sport, or co-op modes). Then you add HD graphics and great performance to epic upcoming titles like zelda(s) and the monolith soft game and bayonetta and mariokart etc etc. Good luck on getting one Gavin, if you like nintendo, and you liked the wii, then you’ll love the wiiU too.

  • William Cole

Umm… No. Nintendo has enough bills to survive 2 more videogame stock market crashes. You can’t judge a system that just came out 4 months ago. This is so dumb, complacently dumb. Just wait till E3 then you may judge.

I’ve never been accused of sticking up for Pachter but he’s not saying Nintendo are going to go out of business, believe me they have deep pockets but I think he’s right in saying that the Wii U will prove to be a mistake financially for them and while it’s not too late too turn things around yet I just don’t see Nintendo being able to get enough first party product available it in time and third party support isn’t going to be that great until they have more confidence in the Wii U’s market penetration.

So, tough times ahead but whatever happens the Wii U won’t be Nintendo’s Dreamcast moment as they are in much better shape financially than Sega were at the time.

P.S. I loved the Dreamcast, I only used it as analogy for being financially disastrous.

Patcher has been right less often than a coin flip. How did I get tricked into reading another article about his doom and gloom?

The man is the main reason i cringe whenever i read the word “Analyst” in any article now.
