BF4Faceoff

The Battlefield 4 beta opens up today for those who don’t own Medal of Honor: Warfighter, or didn’t  buy in to the Premium nonsense. That means that all of you can now jump in on the beta, instead of waiting around for GTA Online to work. You might be wondering though, how the current and next gen versions compare. We took a look at the game running on PC – which is indicative of how it’ll be on next gen systems – and compared it with footage of the game running on a current gen consoles. The difference was much bigger than we expected.

Here you go. It’s a short video, just a minute or so long – but very, very revealing. Watch it.

Honestly; that’s just terrible. The current gen consoles have terrible textures, a shoddy frame-rate, absolutely abysmal lighting and godawful audio. I’m not even sure the “core experience” is in any way similar. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are, quite obviously, past their sell-by date. Either that, or DICE just isn’t up to the task of squeezing as much as they can from the now ancient hardware.

For a proper comparison though, you ought to check out Videogamer’s rather excellent one.

Oh we do. You’d notice the difference if you went from 30 fps current gen console with reduced graphics and player count to a 60 fps experience on a PC with superior graphics and almost 3 times as many players.

            What I read:
“Coz I wanna play in bed.”

            What I understood:
“Coz I wanna play at work..”

Don’t get a gaming laptop bro. I’m not hating on laptops, but if you’re money conscious, which I’m guessing you are from your decision to stick with your old gen console for now, it’s more sensible to get a PC. Gaming laptops, even the highest end ones that cost £2,000+, are much slower than a decent gaming PC for around £800. If you really wanna play in bed then hook the PC up to a large TV, and use a wireless keyboard and mouse from your bed. You can also upgrade the parts in that PC over time to keep it current, rather than having to replace the gaming laptop in 3-4 years when you realize it’s too outdated to play modern games properly and you can’t swap out any of the parts inside it.

Tempted to go Laptop purely because of the convenience.
Unpacking and packing my rig up for bro nights once a week/every two weeks is getting a bit tedious.
just cannot justify the performance vs price difference

I’m yet to check out the Beta. I’ll probably only be able to sometime next week…. but if I remember correctly, the BF3 beta also had a number of issues (I even wrote a small piece for lagz back then). I’d rather they stress test during the beta and sort out some of the glitches or dodgy patchiness now – rather then later.

Also, apparently your online progress in the current gen version will carry on to the next gen version, so if you’re “stats orientated” or even “stats crazy”, you might be at a tactical disadvantage once the next gen versions hit the stores.

The reason the console beta looks more empty and not as polished as the PC beta is because the beta on the consoles is a older build than the PC beta because the beta had to go through the laborious process through Sony and Microsoft before being allowed on the console.

Yes obviously the PC will look miles better but currently the PC beta is more “finished” /polished than the console beta
