Has Konami cancelled PES?

Back when I was growing up, and the dinosaurs were roaming the earth, there was a huge fight between Pro Evolution Soccer and EA’s FIFA series to see which was the better football simulator.

I’ve always had my hat in the FIFA corner as the official licences just made the game that much more entertaining for me but the hardcore guys always said that the PES engine and gameplay was superior.

Well in recent years the FIFA series have accelerated into the distance while PES has floundered a bit and now, unless there is a mistake in the Konami financials, it looks like PES is about go give up entirely.

According to the latest financial results and forecasts from Konami they are only releasing a single global title for consoles this year and it isn’t Pro Evolution Soccer.

Winning Eleven 2015, which is what PES is called in Japan, is still listed but only for a PS4 release and it will be a digital only release. myClub 2015 was announced earlier in March as a free to play title in Japan but it was expected to hit other regions shortly after.

This new information seems to imply that it isn’t going to be going global and with no normal release planned it could be the end of PES as we know it. With Hideo Kojima’s highly publicised split from Konami is this the beginning of the end for Konami’s console releases?

[Update] The PES Community Manager responded to a fan via twitter… but that hasn’t really cleared much up

[Update 2] This article got a bit of traction and now the PES Community Manager has confirmed PES is not cancelled.

Why he waited so long to give out confirmation is a bit weird though. Either he was checking for himself and wasn’t 100% sure or he just didn’t notice so many people asking him for confirmation on the rumour.

Gingers are frequently drawn to red and orange colours.
I suspect this is due to a natural instinct to protect their kind and propagate so that they can one day consume all of humanity.

Football, a class of games played on foot with a ball as opposed to playing on horseback. AsSOCCiation Football (Soccer)… RUGby Football (Rugger), American/Gridiron Football…etc
The names with the -er ending were initially made and popularized by Europeans

That’s sad if it’s true. PES 2006 was incredible. Way better than Fifa at the time but Fifa simly ran away with it recently. 2013 PES wasn’t bad but lacked atmosphere. Controls were miles ahead what Fifa was doing. I believe Fifa’s added those principals to their 2015 release.Sad to see competition fading away. We know how big headed and Stagnant EA can become with no competition in the market.

You grasp that they don’t care about their fanbase correct? They are in business to make money, not win hearts and minds….Its becoming blatantly obvious that they must be looking to get out of the console gaming business altogether. They make boat loads off of their casinos and everything else they’re into in Japan, gaming really doesn’t bring them any profits. MGS 5 cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 million, Silent Hills was probably going to cost twice that.

It makes sense in business to cut out the things that don’t bring the company money, they’ll sit on their IPs maybe occasionally bring out a smaller budget title but that will probably be that. They’ll stick to the mobile market, their casinos and everything else

Thats what its starting to look like. And it makes sense, Konami makes way more money from everything else they are into. The entire purpose of business is to make money, if your not making money on something you stop doing it and focus on other areas. I don’t think they’ll go as far as to sell their IPs, I think they’ll sit on them from time to time they might pop out a lower budget Silent Hill or a MGS but they wont spend the amounts they have, MGS cost 60 million to make plus advertising.

I almost wish they would sell Silent Hill , so a fresh new take could be done. With the right people behind it that game would be sick ( just look at P.T. “RIP” ). They have a massive catalog of IP’s.

But of course the title “Has Konami cancelled PES?” is a great way to generate special attention even if the article is absolute insubstantial. There cannot be any doubt: Konami will release PES 2016 this year.
