Co-op has always been a major focus in LEGO games and it works well. The only complaint that I have is when things get a bit crazy, it is sometimes hard to tell who is who. Regarding online play, Traveller’s Tale still refuses to include any form of it in their games. This is probably the biggest fault that most reviews are focusing on and unfortunately it’s a biggie. The franchise is defiantly in need for a refresh, and going online could be the push they need.

The completionists amongst us will love this game, and there is lots to collect! From every last little bronze, silver, gold or blue stud to finding items with Jacks wonky compass, there is so much to collect and do that getting this platinum is not going to be easy. The game will take around 6 to 7 hours to complete. But if you are going for the money, you are looking at a lot more plays and around 20 solid hours of LEGO hunting.

It is hard to find fault in a game that has had so many titles before it. They have had time to get the LEGO franchise to a point where everything seems very polished. Yes the fact that it all rides on the success of the movies is a big tipping point, but apart from the lack of any online play and a few camera issues, this game is one of LEGO’s best and a must have for any fan of the series.

Savvy?

Scoring:

Presentation: 8.0/10

The game is presented well and the graphics are better than any other LEGO game around. It is very clear that Disney and Traveller’s Tale’s spent a lot of time working on turning the looks of the real actors into LEGO form. The levels are beautiful and rich with colour, especially when you are playing a night level and the moon is full.

Sound: 10/10

I cannot fault the sound in LEGO: Pirates of the Caribbean. The music score is taken straight from the movies, and composer Klaus Badelt doesn’t miss a beat. It is truly spectacular. On the games effects side, the LEGO games have adapted their own quirky dialogue and it works. The splashing of the waves, the breaking of blocks, it all comes together to score a perfect 10.

Gameplay: 8.0/10

The single player gameplay is great. Jumping, fighting and changing characters has been well mapped to the controller and is done with ease. On the flip-side, other characters often get in your way, playing co-op can be difficult at times keeping an eye on who is who and most importantly, there is no online play.

Value: 7.0/10

With all four movies packed into one game, you can imagine there is a lot of rich and diverse content. But, after playing through the game there will be little reason to come back to LEGO: Pirates of the Caribbean unless you are a obsessive compulsive completionist like me.
