Black Ops 4 sales were “below outlook.” – Next Call of Duty to have a single-player campaign

The major focus from Activision’s earning’s call yesterday is, rightfully, bound to be on the on the massive layoffs across the company. Eight hundred people are now without jobs, despite the company seeing record growth, with revenues up 6 per cent year-on-year and new executives having sizeable signing bonuses. According to Activision COO Coddy Johnson, last year’s Call of Duty, Black Ops 4, did exceptionally well in its launch period, but failed to maintain that momentum in the second half of the quarter.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta starts on September 10

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta has come and gone, giving fans and newcomers a taste of the impending multi-player focused Call of Duty. Reception has been mixed. Most fans of the Black Ops series are incredibly positive, while others have found it be more of the same. The newly added Heist mode seems to borrow liberally from CS:GO, but is reportedly quite a bit of fun. With the decision to nix the traditional single-player campaign though, the mode I’m most curious and excited for is Blackout.

It looks like the rumours were true! For a while now, rumours have abounded that Call of Duty Black Ops 4 would be home to a new Battle Royale mode. As revealed by Treyarch at today’s community reveal event, it looks like that’s completely true. Call of Duty will have its own every-man-for-himself 100 player mode.

Activision has revealed that the Treyarch-developed sequel will hit retail on October 12 this year, and come to PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One. There’s no word on the rumoured Switch version, or any mention of the setting.
