Avengers: Endgame is tantalisingly close to dethroning king Avatar though, and Disney knows this. The house of mouse is hellbent on taking the crown away from Avatar, and even though it has been two months since the film came out, they’re going for broke at cinemas once again.

The premise is usually simple enough to follow: A regular Joe from our world, gets stuck in a fantasy world that usually has several video game mechanics attached to it. You’d think that after a few years of studios pumping out shows from this well, that the genre would have run dry by now. You’d be wrong though, because Isekai anime has proven itself to be surprisingly versatile and able to take that idea in wild new directions. Want to hop in and give it a watch? Batman may have been a serious film with dark violence and mature themes at the time, but there was one aspect of the project that made everyone find their inner child and grin with joy: The Batmobile. Not just an important weapon in Batman’s arsenal, the Batmobile was an iconic part of his history and the hottest toy of the year.

Dressing Michael Keaton up in a leotard and giving him circus trunks to wear on the outside would have ruined the illusion of the dark and Gothic world that Tim Burton was looking to create in his Batman film, forcing the director and his crew to come up with a more imaginative take on the idea of the caped crusader that didn’t just look good on camera, but also made sense within the context of that world.

Much like Superman had done back in 1978, 1989's Batman knew that it needed to cast a big name to give the project an air of legitimacy. Plenty of names may have been thrown into a casting hat, but from day one there was only one actor considered for the role: Jack Nicholson.
