The attraction of Fallout 1st was the scrap box which would allow for unlimited storage in a game that was already stingy with how much it allowed you to stow away. To the horror of Fallout 1st subscribers, that infinite void in which they’ve chucked many a prized item has instead gobbled up their goods, never to see the light of day again

So what’s happening now in the post-apocalypse online survival game that is Fallout 76? With fans miffed at the news of NPCs being delayed to 2020, Bethesda decided to add something else to the mix: Premium subscriptions! Yes sir, for a fistful of dollars you can join Fallout 1st.

There's no disputing it – The Outer Worlds looks like a Fallout game in all but name. Which shouldn't come as a surprise, given that Obsidian Games is behind it. As the creators of arguably the best Fallout game out there (even with New Vegas' misgivings) it's still somewhat surprising how much of that DNA is retained in Outer Wilds. That isn't to say this looks like a decade old RPG either. Outer Wilds instead looks to build on ideas that haven't worked out as well in past Obsidian ventures, giving you even more ways to approach its more open-ended quests.

Grand promises! Lofty ambitions! A game that smelt worse than Batman & Robin on launch. Bethesda’s Fallout 76 may just be one of the worst games of all time, and that’s a statement which can be made after some extensive patching was made. But where did it all go wrong for Bethesda? How did a studio which was known for quality and engaging games, create the digital equivalent of being forced to attend a Steve Hofmeyer concert at gunpoint?

Time has not been kind to Fallout 76 in the hundred days since it launched. Still, there are some people out there who can overlook the many many faults of Bethesda’s live service apocalypse tour, and more power to them if they find some joy in that wasteland. A wasteland that’s about to receive an infusion of content.

Following its announcement and trailer at this year's Game Awards, Obsidian Entertainment has emerged to quell fan fears over the issues of in-game transactions in their upcoming spiritual successor to Fallout, The Outer Worlds.

Bethesda is acknowledging the problems with Fallout 76, and have detailed a plan to fix many issues over the next two weeks.
