Fallout 76 is a failure to grasp onto what the most captivating elements of a Fallout adventure are, relegating them to the side in the pursuit of uninteresting multiplayer mechanics and aging combat.

Fallout 76 has received its first major patch since launch, and it's another huge download ringing in at just under 47GB in total.

Say what you want about BETAs being glorified timed demos, but they’re genuinely are useful slices of gameplay that allows developers to receive some necessary feedback to help them rejigger the parts of a game that just aren’t working. Take Fallout 76 for example, as Bethesda’s upcoming life after the apocalypse simulation is in need of plenty of fine-tuning ahead of its release next week.

A chuffing 30 gigglebytes of patching needs to be done to Fallout 76, with fixes ranging from minor to massive thanks to exploits such as a frame-rate bug that allows people to pretend that they’re the Flash as they scoot away from danger.

Fallout 76 feels far more familiar than you might expect, but charges you with adapting to its new rules and co-operative play in a big way.

Over on the Nintendo Switch, you can easily grab a session of DOOM and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus while you’re on the go. Bethesda’s premiere first-person shooters may require plenty of graphical downgrades to fit on the Switch, but the fact that you can take a game of Nazi and demon-slaying with you and still have a relatively smooth experience while retaining the core gameplay of those titles, is nothing short of amazing. So what about Fallout 76 then? Surely Bethesda has plans to port over the benchmark in post-apocalyptic action to the Switch…right? Yeah, that ain’t happening.

Good news: If your PC was capable of running Fallout 4 a few years ago, you’ll probably have no real difficulty in running Fallout 76. While the game is more demanding on the graphical side, you shouldn’t have to spend too many bottle caps to ensure that your machine is up to scratch.
