Overwatch 2 director Jeff Kaplan is leaving Blizzard

After almost two decades at Blizzard, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan has announced that he’ll be leaving the company. Across 19 years, Kaplan’s career saw him him work on games such as Warcraft 3, World of Warcraft, and Titan, the latter getting the axe and instead being transformed into Overwatch. As the director on its continual development, Kaplan became a beloved source of information in the fan community.

Jeff Kaplan mentioned that the game will be shown at next year’s BlizzCon Online. You just know someone wanted to call it BlizzConline but given the company’s recent history it would probably raise too many eyebrows.

In case you missed it, Blizzard announced that there’s a sequel for its hit team-based multiplayer FPS coming in the future. Yes, Overwatch is getting a sequel – but it’s a weird sort of half-sequel that’s been curiously communicated. For starters, if you’re playing Overwatch just for the PvP, you won’t even have to buy the new game. The new heroes and the new PvP modes will be playable from the older game – and Overwatch 1 and 2 players will be able to play together.
