Summer Games Fest kicked off last night, and amidst all the big game reveals and new trailers, was the reveal of a brand new publishing label from Koch Media, called Prime Matter. According to Koch, Prime Matter is designed to give smaller games a chance in the spotlight while also shining a light on more experimental titles, all through a partner that the company calls a "premium publishing label."

Last year's E3 was pretty much a write-off long before the Electronic Software Assosciation announced that the show would not go on in 2020. Extraordinary circumstances and saw E3 skip out on having any presence whatsoever in 2020, but this year things are a little bit different. The ESA has put together an all-digital showcase, one that has a beefy number of names attached to it, ranging from the biggest players in the industry through to smaller but no less important brands.

Gearbox Studios, developers of good games like those superb Borderlands and Homeworld titles, has just been acquired by Embracer group for a cool $1.3 billion. If the name rings a bell, it’s because Embracer happens to be the same Swedish company that owns THQ Nordic and Koch Media, publishers who have a ton of games on their resume already.

Almost six years after it was first announced, and Dead Island 2 owner Koch Media wants you to know that it's still coming.

One of the first major publishers to jump ship from Steam towards Epic Exclusivity was Koch Media, the folks ultimately behind publishing Metro Exodus. When that game ditched steam for Epic Game Store exclusivity, the writhing torment of millions of PC gamers was heard around the world, as pained screams and hisses.

THQ Nordic announced that it has raised over £171 million/$223 million, cash that will be invested in the acquisition of more game studios. That’s not exactly chump change.

THQ went bankrupt, its properties were sold off and the legacy of that company was buried. Until a new successor rose from its ashes that is. Having acquired numerous video game licenses, Nordic Entertainment rebranded itself as THQ Nordic back in 2016, building a new company that featured plenty of hits from the past and new titles with which to create a legacy of success. That legacy may have just come full circle, as THQ Nordic has closed a deal to acquire Koch Media.
