There's a reason why we always gravitate to the Shonen side of the animation genre. It’s the power fantasy, the sheer unbridled joy of seeing characters engage in new forms of combat that was born from their desire to become stronger. Over the years, a ton of systems have been invented for various anime series and their manga source material. Sometimes wild, always imaginative and often trippy, it’s these ideas which form the backbone of Shonen anime. Here’s a look then, at ten of the best.

When it’s done right though, a proper anime fighting game is more than fan service. It’s the closest that a fan will ever get to living out the events of their particular favourite series, using their favourite characters to re-enact key storylines. Which is why I’m dead keen on the upcoming My Hero Academia: One’s Justice

It’s true! It’s damn true! A new game based on My Hero Academia (or Boku No Academia accrding to Geoff who also rubbished any claims that he might actually be a fan of anime) has been announced. Straight out of the latest issue of Weekly Jump via Gematsu, you can expect to lock horns and throw down a Detroit Smash as all of your favourite characters from the hit manga and anime series soon, in My Hero Academia: One’s Justice.

The Japanese spring season has seen plenty of fantastic new anime series debut to rave reviews. But My Hero Academia is my favourite right now.
