Final Fantasy 8 is out soon with a facelift that would make Tom Cruise seethe with jealousy as he lays within his bathtub of moisturiser and stem cells if he caught wind of it. September 3 is when the best Final Fantasy arrives, but don’t just take my word for it. Here’s Square Enix delivering the good news.

The Big N is ready to kick off Gamescom 2019, and this may just be one of the strongest showings yet for Nintendo ever since they revealed their Switch handheld console. The tail end of 2019 looks like an amazing time for Switch owners, as first-party games such as the latest Pokemon and Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be balanced by a ton of new indie games.

Unlike E3’s gauntlet of livestreamed events which play out over several unrelenting days at the ungodliest of hours for anyone East of the ol’ GMT timezone, Gamescom is a more focused affair. This year will see three of the big names in gaming take to the stage with plenty of studios spread between them: Microsoft with their Inside Xbox event, Google will host another direct spot of streaming focused on Stadia and Geoff Keighley will host the Gamescom Opening Night festivities.

Like a perfectly timed jump scare cat in a horror movie, a new port of DOOM 3 came out of nowhere when Bethesda revealed that the classic trilogy would soon be on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. While the pairing of DOOM uno and deux may be a mixed bag that is in need of some technical support beneath its surface, DOOM 3 on the other hand is still a superb slice of Martian horror some fifteen years after release especially now that I’m finally brave enough to tackle it.

Activision has a few more of those remasters up its sleeves. With the publisher having scant few properties under its belt other than Call of Duty right now, Activision has realised that there’s some big money to be made when they give the past a face-lift. In a recent Q&A session that the company held with its voracious stockholders as they discussed the financial earnings for the 2nd Quarter, Activision president Rob Kostich detailed how their current remasters had done well on a critical and a financial level.

A new patent from Microsoft recently cropped up for a device that’ll turn your smartphone into an Xbox One hub, and while said patent doesn’t have any Xbox branding on it, it does have some intriguing technology based around the idea of “removable input modules”.
