Will Sony keep Cell for Playstation 4?

By Gareth

Reports out of Japan suggest that the Cell chip could be used to power Sony’s Playstation 4 console. Using Cell would help reduce development costs for Sony, which spent billions on R&D for the Playstation 3. In addition, the move would also help Sony bring the PS4 to market sooner, a plan both Microsoft and Nintendo seem to have. …

John Davidson has reported on whattheyplay.com that he has heard from multiple sources in the game development and publishing community that Nintendo is currently showing early presentations of its next home console hardware. There is however no indication that the console will in fact be called Wii HD, but has been dubbed so by those who have seen the presentation. …

Question of the Week: Guilty Pleasure

QOTWguilty.jpg Howdy folks and welcome back to Question of the Week. Last weeks question had our readers telling us their stories of ultimate and absolute pwnage and although some of the stories involved some awesome gaming skills, a lot of you guys seem to have been blessed with some serious luck. I have posted the winner's name up after the jump below. Remember that if you don't tell us your story, you can't win a prize, so get involved or lose out! So now that that's out of the way, let's get down to the fun stuff. This Weeks Question: Did you ever play (and really enjoy) a game in secret because your friends would think you were lame? So, for this week's question I really want you guys to spill the beans. We have all played a game at one point or another that was considered so lame that your friends would no longer be able to see you as the hardcore "l33t pWnZor" that you are. Problem is, you really loved it and probably put more hours into it than you ever would have originally anticipated. Thanks to the latest offerings from Nintendo, titles like these are a dime a dozen.... Tell us your tale and you could win yourself a free copy of **********, courtesy of Ster Kinekor. Just a quick note before I announce the winner, the judging for the Question of the Week is going to be done a little differently. To keep things fair, all accepted entries will now be put into a randomiser and the winner will then be chosen electronically using Random.org, as was done with the winner of last weeks prize.... Your gaming skills and a stroke of randomised luck have earned you a new "beat-down simulator". You can check out last weeks' question as well as the stories that people wrote by clicking here.

Brain Age Actually Works. I Should Hope So!

By Nick De Bruyne

BBC reports that a study in Scotland using school children has proven that Brain Age for the Nintendo DS actually works. A group of pupils played the game, which included reading tests, problem-solving exercises and memory puzzles, for 20 minutes at the start of their class for nine weeks. A control group continued their lessons in a more traditional manner. The pupils were tested at the beginning and then the end of the study. Researchers found that while all groups had improved their scores, the group using the game had improved by a further 50%. The time taken to complete the tests also dropped by five minutes, from 18.5 minutes to 13.5 minutes. The improvement in the games group was double that of the control group. The thing that astounds me is that reports like this are actually seen as news. When a game is marketing itself as a brain booster, I sure as hell hope that it actually helps boost your brain. Anything less could only be seen as total fraud. On a more positive note, I am glad to see that gaming is getting a bit more of a good reputation out in the world and that little handheld games like this do actually offer a fun means for children to boost their learning abilities. Good job, I say.

Wii Music Trailer: This Makes Me Sad

By Nick De Bruyne

What you are about to witness, is an advert for Wii Music. Wii Music doesn't completely make sense to me. You can pretty much do what you want and still be apart of the songs. Which makes me wonder, why not just flip your television to MTV and wave your coffee mugs around instead? It's cheaper for starters, well, as long as you don't toss any of them into a wall. The sad fact is that this "game" is going to sell like hotcakes, even though I think that most people are going to only toy around with it a few times and then never touch it again. What also interests me and only serves to prove my point a little more, is that I could take the above video and replace the piano music with the sounds of bongo drums and most people wouldn't even realise. I know that Nintendo wants to make games that are interactive and easy to learn, but this barely makes you apart of the actual experience at all.

Nintendo has said Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City will be out before Christmas. Sometime in December to be exact. The game, first shown back at E3 in July, comes bundled with Wii speak, the little microphone thing you also put on top of your TV.  The aim of this will be chatting to friends whose towns can be …
