Pillars of Eternity – Complete Edition Switch Review: Loading Screens of Eternity

By Brad Lang

I think Nintendo missed something when they began marketing the Switch as the “hybrid console”. All the adverts for their snazzy dockable hand-held showed off the portability they were no doubt so excited to show off to the world, with footage of people using the handheld Switch in laundromats, aeroplanes and the now-iconic roof-top party and while it’s nice to …

Don’t expect more Microsoft first party games on other platforms

Microsoft’s recently opened up its chest of games, and after the moths flew out, they took some of those games and gave them to Nintendo. Two of the platforms best indie games, Cuphead and Ori and the Blind Forest are now Switch games. They’re both wonderful games, frustrating for different reasons – but two of Microsoft’s best games. And possibly the last of Microsoft’s games on other platforms.

E3 2019 Eyes-On Preview: Outer Worlds gives you intriguing and hilarious ways to complete quests

By Alessandro Barbosa

There's no disputing it – The Outer Worlds looks like a Fallout game in all but name. Which shouldn't come as a surprise, given that Obsidian Games is behind it. As the creators of arguably the best Fallout game out there (even with New Vegas' misgivings) it's still somewhat surprising how much of that DNA is retained in Outer Wilds. Outer Wilds instead looks to build on ideas that haven't worked out as well in past Obsidian ventures, giving you even more ways to approach its more open-ended quests.

This generation won’t be as fondly remembered by Microsoft, as Sony and Nintendo left the brand in the dust thanks to their own arsenal of high quality games that resulted in some of the finest system-sellers around. Microsoft is ending its generation with more stable footing, and if the future is any indication, it’s going to be establishing its own rhythm and flow as it releases more original games in the future.

Former Obsidian boss Chris Avellone reveals scrapped plans for a third Knights of the Old Republic

I adored BioWare’s pre-Mass Effect space opera, and the moment where you, as the player, become a Jedi and first get your own lightsabre stands as one of the finest moments in my gaming history. The Obsidian-made sequel was actually the first game I have distinct memories of pre-ordering, back when South African games retailer BT Games was still called Budget Technologies. Like many, I’d been waiting patiently for a sequel that just never happened. Speaking to VG247 at Reboot, former Obsidian head Chris Avellone revealed that there were plans for a third KotoR – and that it was pitched, but it never came to pass.

A first-person shooter in a horrible universe that has seen capitalism run amok and infect numerous other planets, The Outer Worlds mixes the harsh materialism of society with a somewhat funny look at the future. Here’s the reveal trailer for it, hot out of the Game Awards 2018 oven.
