By Gavin Mannion

Sony are going to have to take a look at how they are upgrading the firmware on the PS3 as it is just a complete and utter waste of money at the moment. The latest firmware version (2.53) has been released and included in it is the ability to play flash movies full screen and… that’s it… Nothing more. Now …

The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf – Trailer

By Nick De Bruyne
December 3, 2008

The Witcher was initially released for the PC and was met with positive results (81/100 on Metacritic). The devolopers, CD Projekt Red recently announced that a console version subtitled Rise of the White Wolf, for the Xbox 360 and PS3 is in the works and promises to have new engine, streamlined combat, character models, animations as well as a more dynamic combat system. A trailer has just been released and while it doesn't show any footage of the actual gameplay it does a good job of setting the tone for what console gamers can expect. The game is set to be released on consoles somewhere around our spring in 2009 so if you are looking for an engaging action RPG that offers between 40 - 50 hours of gameplay at that time, this may very well be worth your money.

World Reminder: Games are supposed to be FUN

By Nick De Bruyne

iHateFunBanner.jpg [WARNING: Excessive use of bad language and violence against common household items] Anyone who has had a taste of online gaming will know that there are some seriously strange people out there. Join any American game however and you will usually be treated to an absolute barrage of high-pitched, whiny, disrespectful little monsters who do nothing but scream and shout about how they are going to own you and how everytime you owned them was only because of lag, luck or a whatever else they can think of. I have posted a video after the jump that is not what I would call "office friendly" as it involves a young american kid who has possibly the worst anger management problem that I have ever seen and his language will not impress your boss, so you have been warned. It really got me wondering about these kids, at the risk of sounding like all of our parents I ask: What has happened to the kids of today? ...The guy above might seem a little familiar to you, it's because there was a previous video up a while back of him playing Halo 3.... Games are supposed to be about having fun but it seems that so many people have just gotten so obsessed with proving their amazing skills that the concept of gaming for fun seems to be lost altogether. It's a sad day to see a young person having such an incredibly bad time with a game when we all know that we should all be relaxing and enjoying it.... He spills coke, further breaks his headset, cracks his Halo 3 poster and in what must be the most amazing moment of self-pwnage, actually manages to get the microphone of his headset shoved halfway down his throat (See it to believe it - 5min 18 secs in).... I myself have been having some frustration problems with control schemes and online issues with some of the more recent games but to take it out like these guys do is utterly ridiculous.... This sort of play is getting out of hand to the point that there are a few games that I have at the moment that I am playing online with public international matches because I am so tired of the guys who want nothing but to win, that I would rather suffer with a second of lag and play with a bunch of Japanese folks who just want to have some fun. It really does make a statement that I would rather play with people that I don't understand, with a second of lag, rather than have to sit through round after round of players who only use cheap tactics, camping and assorted other methods so that they can top the scoreboards. Thanks to all of those people, I just stopped playing a lot of the games that I really enjoyed and have now resorted to only playing with close friends that I know I can relax with.... It means that if I want to play online with random people, I don't get to choose between the hardcore no-fun bunch or the relaxed games just trying to have some fun. So the next time you are playing a game and being a douche-bag, try to remember that it's all about having fun. If your concept of fun is sitting in a corner surrounded by trip mines, up a hill with a sniper rifle and every sort of cheap trick you can think of to get to the top of the scoreboards, then you need to have a slap sent your way because nobody likes it and no one will go to be thinking about how cool you are.

God of War III not coming in 2009?

By Nick De Bruyne

gow3.jpg In May of this year, we posted an article that said that Amazon.com has God of War III listed with a March 2009 release date. Problem is that a bit of information may have been leaking in the form of a listing on the internet movie database (IMDB) website. Since the announcement of God of War III, no official mention has yet been made of when games can expect to actually be playing it. A slip on IMDB may however, have more of answer for us than Sony does. On the page of Terence (T.C) Carson, the voice actor for Kratos, a new project has been added. Yup, you guessed it, God of War III. Now as is always standard practice on IMDB, the year of the game, TV show or movie title is always put in brackets next to the project. According to the information on IMDB, the title is set for 2010 and is "in production". If the information is correct then it looks like we may have to wait for more than a year to be able to go on Kratos's next adventure. The only thing we can hope for is that the game could be set for a March/April release but we all know that publishers like to aim for the Christmas season and if that is true, the wait for God of War III could possibly still be another 2 years from now. That is a very, very long time.

Prince of Persia – Epic Gameplay Montage

By Nick De Bruyne

Another Prince of Persia video has been released, this time showing a montage of the gameplay elements that we can all expect from the new refreshed title. I think that the game is looking really fun and to be honest, it really needs to be because a lot of gamers have already exhausted a lot of their resources on buying the plethora of games that were released in the recent weeks. I think that Prince of Persia will have a lot of appeal with regards to new and casual gamers and from the looks of things, is set to be quite an enjoyable experience. Prince of Persia hits local shelves this Friday.

COD:WAW tops the UK Charts – Resistance 2 comes in at 10

By Nick De Bruyne

ukcharts4.jpg The latest sales charts in from the UK have some interesting stories to tell. Call of Duty 5 is proving that the public doesn't really care who is developing the game and whether or not it is based in World War 2 again. The game appeals to many people and is accessible enough that a lot of consumers are all too happy to pick it up and give it a go. In the same vein, I am not too happy about the fact the Need for Speed: Undercover is sitting in second place. The fact that the game is still getting good sales is only going to let EA know more than ever that they can take huge shortcuts and make a really low quality game and still get away with massive sales due to a recognisable brand. What is really interesting is that Resistance 2, the supposedly almighty PS3 exclusive is only sitting at number 10. Why is that? Well, I was actually very interested to find out that Resistance 2 had only been on sale for a day when the chart was released, which means that the day one sales were probably looking pretty strong. It seems that the UK is also experiencing distribution issues so that may factor into the charts as well. It is interesting to see that so many other recent popular titles are not in the top 10 although it was interesting to see that even though it is so far down the line, Mario Kart Wii is sitting at a very respectable 4th place.

Uncharted 2 Teaser and First Details

By Nick De Bruyne

Oh yeah! Another Uncharted is coming. Uncharted really is living up to it's name with this new trailer that shows our hero Nathan Drake, in surroundings significantly different to those seen in the first game. The first Uncharted title was hugely successful and is arguably one of the best games to own on the Playstation 3 so I can't see any PS3 fans not liking what they see. GameInformer gives information saying that the new title has been named Uncharted: Among Thieves and " revolves around the 13th century explorer Marco Polo and his voyages." Something else that is interesting although I can see it having mixed reactions is that the game is now going to have a few different gameplay elements, namely " free climbing mechanic and stealth gameplay." What do you guys think? Good, bad?

American Software Charts a good indicator of the current status quo?

By Gavin Mannion

An un-named colleague (Nick) sent a tip over this morning about how Call of Duty 5 on the 360 is outselling the PS3 version by nearly 3:1. Apparently he is not impressed that I kept on sending him the flamebait tips and wanted to get some revenge. However I have been burnt enough recently so I am not going to …
