While you’re more than likely to find plenty of regular people (and me!) playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the smash hit Early Access game has managed to attract a mental crowd of folks who play the title non-stop and are willing to shell out plenty of bucks for a few cosmetic goods. How much are we talking about here? How about a staggering $486.93 for a digital purple mini-skirt.
It’s honestly baffling stuff, that people can flip a trigger and just become horrid turds for craps and giggles in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. It is of course, a perfect example of what happens when the Internet guarantees you some anonymity, so you have to roll with it as a tween learns that they can use curse words as adjectives. No more says PUBG developer BlueHole Studio, as the game now has a new code of conduct that seeks to stamp out discriminatory language and abuse.
Four months since it hit Early Access, people are buzzing over PUBG. While the servers may be populated, there’s still a lot of work to be done before the game is ready for mass consumption across the rest of the PC market and the Xbox One in the near future.This week’s patch is another step in that direction to add more to PUBG, with first-person, field of View sliders and other tweaks arriving in that hefty update.
When PUBG does eventually hit a full release, it’s going to be in the form of a game which can be modded further by its community. News which makes creator Brendan “PlayerUnkown” Greene happy as he explained to CNET that he was hoping that fan efforts would help produce another PUBG success story. “I’ve said this before: I want to find the next PlayerUnknown,” Greene said.
Yup, the first PUBG Invitational will kick off at Gamescom, with a free-for-all brouhaha featuring the cream of the PUBG crop from August 23-26. So definitely not me then.
Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has managed to earn a rabid following since it hit Steam’s Early Access back in March. PUBG has done gangbuster numbers so far, with over 5.29 million copies sold so far according to Steamspy.
The Battle Royale genre, which is currently dominated by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, is taking a step in the right direction with applications opening up for custom games for those who want to host their very own esports tournaments, as announced last night on the official PUBG forums.
