A seventh game was inevitable, and SEGA has officially revealed it and some of the BIG changes that’ll make Yakuza 7 feel like an entirely different beast.

Of all the diminutive, retro consoles being released in South Africa, the official miniature Mega Drive is one of the most anticipated. While the NES was stuffed with classics that reminded local folk of their knock o9ff Golden China consoles, the SNES tickled nostalgic bones a little less, as it was never really released here. The PlayStation Classic probably would have done better if it wasn’t such a miserable, hastily cobbled-together cash grab.

You might be shaking your fist right now, moaning that back in your day, there was no DLC. There were no season passes, games that needed hourly patches and services being delivered piecemeal to you on a weekly basis while you paid monthly for the privilege to play those games. No sir, you’d pop a cart into a machine, switch your console on, switch it off, take the cart back out, blow the dust off of it and then you’d play a game. Simple as that. No long-ass loading screens, just simple plug in and play gameplay. That’s how games of that age were the best. Bollocks.

Long before there was many an online universe of fantasy and adventure to dig into, there was Phantasy Star Online. The game that made consoles desirable, that forged the idea of brotherhood in online spaces and stole many an hour away from an adventurer, SEGA’s premiere online franchise has been at home in Japan for years now. While the game’s undoubtedly fun, especially in short bursts, there’s nothing about it that’s making me – or my family – want to play this more than we already have. Considering we spent weeks playing All Stars, I think it’s safe to say that things have gone backwards this time around.
