You could argue that every video game is an action, and you’d be right! For this award though, we’re looking at those games whose inherent activity that you have agency over is just so gosh dang good that you can ignore everything else about it. The games whose ability to rock you like a hurricane more than makes up for a silly story, occasional glitches or even a lack of ambition.

Looking at Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order which arrives well after the launch of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice you’d think that Respawn poached plenty of inspiration from its Japanese counterpart, but seeing as how Respawn began work several years ago on their Star Wars tale, it may just be a case of amazing coincidence at play once again. That doesn’t mean that Respawn doesn’t like the comparison though.
Sekiro might be one tough game, but that hasn’t stopped it from selling rather well, especially for a game in its niche. According to publisher Activision, the game has sold more than 2 million copies across PC, PS4 and Xbox One worldwide within its first 10 days on sale.
Sekiro is the full package with immensely satisfying combat and an intriguing world to explore and discover.
It’s 2019, load shedding is once again a problem and too many terrible people are doing equally terrible things. I ain’t worried though, because at least I can sit back and bask in the glory that is another FromSoftware game, which happens to be out rather soon. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice looks like a blast and then some, taking FromSoftware’s trademark style of risk over reward and adding a few interesting wrinkles to the formula.
